Art House is a program house at Brown University dedicated to the promotion of the arts on campus and in the wider community of Providence. We've opened galleries, set up a food co-op, directed a number of other events, and assisted in community service events. We also run workshops related to the arts and encourage collaboration between our members. 2006-07. Art House will have a satellite club allowing members of Brown and RISD to have access to some of the residential community's facilities.

Besides being a center of artistic activity at Brown, our goal is to foster a tight community of artists, writers, musicians, designers, and activists.

Arthouse is located in the luxurious Harkness dorm on the corner of Thayer and Charlesfield. Total possible housing for the residential community consists of three floors of 12 two-person rooms and 14 possible single-person rooms. Each Floor has 2 co-ed optional bathrooms. Other notable locations in the Arthouse abode consist of a Lounge, Library, Kitchen, and possible Studio Space. Our lounge is spacious and comes equipped with a fire-place, 7 sofas, media equipment, and a breathtaking view of the Thayer St. asphalt. Our library has plenty of shelves for storing our sewing machines, button makers, paints, and myriad other supplies. It is also a great room for studying. Our kitchen is easily accessible and good for family meals.

In addition to official and causal events, the house meets for 1.5-2 hours once every two weeks to report on current events, raise house issues, and hang out. Members who can?t make the meeting have a proxy.

The house is free to vary other offices of self-government each semester as the members see fit, as long as the following guidelines for "good standing" from Residential Life are met:

• 2 Community Service Events
• 2 Campus-Wide Events (can be parties or workshops)
• Also, usually 2 house-only events for the sake of chillin?
• 1/3rd of the total number of members of any given year are returning members from the previous year.
